REQUERIMENTO dos homens pretos, naturais da ilha de Santo Antão, à rainha [D. Maria I] solicitando, pelo desprezo e sujeição a que eram submetidos pelos administradores da Companhia de Grão Pará e Maranhão por os considerarem escravos da Fazenda Real, que se lhes passasse decreto para que fossem tidos e reconhecidos como homens livres, liberdade e reconhecimento esses que, por outro, haviam alcançado os pretos e habitadores da mesma ilha, Nicolau Gamboa, Tomé Fernandes da Rocha e Manuel José da Luz na causa da sentença cível de justificação requerida contra o sequestro dos bens do antigo donatário daquela ilha, o duque de Aveiro, José Mascarenhas.
