CONSULTA do Conselho Ultramarino à rainha D. Maria I, com despacho do procurador da Fazenda Real, sobre outra de 5 de Novembro de 1777, sobre as cartas do governador de Cabo Verde, António do Vale de Sousa e Menezes, datadas de 30 de Julho do mesmo ano, e de 24 de Abril, dando conta da ruina e destruição em que se achavam os fortes São João, da Fortaleza Real [da cidade da Ribeira Grande] quando tomou posse a 18 de Maio, da falta de paramentos e peças de artilharia, balas e pólvora nas mais fortalezas, também da vila da Praia, dos quais remetia mapa para conhecimento, indicando seu parecer que cabia à Companhia de [Grão e Pará e Maranhão], proceder à sua recuperação ao seu estado antes de 1757; e sobre as providencias que ao Conselho pareciam ser necessárias para a sua reedificação.
