CONSULTA do Conselho Ultramarino à rainha D. Maria I sobre resolução de outra de 5 de Novembro de 1777, para informar seu parecer acerca da nomeação de sujeitos hábeis e dignos para ocupar o posto de sargento-mor e comandante de Cacheu. São opositores, Pedro Correia de Seabra, José Diogo Pereira da Serra, Matias Gonçalves Pereira e José Pedro de Araújo que serviu nas ilhas de Cabo Verde em praça de soldado de cavalo da tropa da cidade da Ribeira Grande, [ilha de Santiago], soldado pago da companhia dos brancos, e no posto de capitão de infantaria, sem soldo, de um dos regimentos da guarnição da referida cidade, servindo também de secretário do governo do antigo governador e Luís António da Cunha de Eça, escrivão da matricula da gente de guerra e de capitão comandante, durante o impedimento do sargento-mor, Francisco de Assis de Santa Maria. [Esta decisão real estará na base da queixa do cabido da sé vacante da ilha de Santiago apresentada pelo governador de Cabo Verde, António do Vale de Sousa e Menezes, em carta de 30 de Julho de 1777, contra o sargento-mor e comandante de Cacheu, António Vaz de Araújo, pelos excessos que praticou com o visitador da Guiné, vigário da vara de Cacheu, o cónego, João Leitão do Vale].
