OFÍCIO do governador de Cabo Verde, António Pusich, ao [secretário de estado da Marinha e Ultramar], conde dos Arcos [D. Marcos de Noronha e Brito], sobre o ataque dos insurgentes que desembarcaram, roubaram e destruíram tudo quanto acharam na ilha do Maio; remete uma representação do capitão, António dos Santos Dias; informa que mandou para lá, um destacamento militar de 30 praças, comandado pelo tenente de infantaria, Manuel Nicolau Pacheco, com vários petrechos, tendo-o encarregado do comando interino daquela ilha e mandando suspender o comandante que ali se encontrava, pois consta se achar incapaz para o serviço, por ter uma perna partida, mas também, porque se comportou com a maior indolência e cobardia, devido a ter armamento e cartuxame mais do que suficiente, para se defender de tal desembarque; remete a devassa tirada ao seu comportamento e aos acontecimentos; o povo ficou tranquilo e contente com as providências tomadas, e prestou-se voluntáriamente à construção de 3 fortins, que em breve estarão concluídos, remetendo-lhes então, a respectiva artilharia; sendo o único produto daquela ilha, o sal, o comandante interino providenciou a limpeza da salina que se encontrava entupida.
